Not even if it costs you collectively £116million. That is the aggregate of fines levied by the OFT today on supermarkets and other participants of a milk and dairy products price fixing cartel who have admitted their participation in the cartel. This includes fines against Sainsburys and Asda.
The actual level of fines amounts to a reduction on what OFT would otherwise have levied on the parties fined today, as all had cooperated with the OFT. The whistleblower on the cartel, Arla, also obtained complete immunity.
Tesco and Morrisons, amongst others, continue to deny participation, even though this risks them being awarded much higher penalties.
